Patterns of Flora | Mapping Seven Raasay Habitats

We were delighted to work on this project with Edinburgh-based ceramicist Frances Priest. Commissioned by Atlas Arts on the Isle of Skye, Frances has created ceramic artworks for permanent installation in Raasay House. The form and design of these artworks is inspired by the plant life on the island of Raasay; in particular the seven different habitats that host unique and varying plant species: Bog, Coast, Fresh Water, Limestone, Moor, Mountains and Woodland. Frances' complex designs were hand traced, then scanned and scaled. The Scanned images were then carefully prepared for laser cutting from 6mm MDF sheets. The finished sheets were then rebated into window sills for a flush finish and the ceramic tiles grouted in place. You can read more about the finished project on the Patterns of Flora website.
